Renew ‘22 - Opening Soon
Dear Members,
We are thrilled to share that as of today, May 20, 2025, Hollyburn has officially received occupancy approval from the District of West Vancouver, marking the completion of construction for Renew ’22—a milestone that concludes a transformative journey made possible by the vision, trust, and support of our Membership.
After years of planning, collaboration, and construction, we are proud to officially close this chapter and begin a new one. Renew ’22 was inspired by Member feedback and focused on enhancing the Club’s most valued and well-used amenity—food and beverage—while also improving spaces for young families. Today, we are pleased to announce the successful completion of the project and to share that we have achieved the goals we set out to accomplish. Most importantly, we’ve created a space that strengthens our sense of community and one that you can be proud to share with your friends and family.
Opening Schedule - Early June!
With construction now complete, we’re putting the final touches in place - furnishing the spaces, training our teams, and ensuring every detail is ready.
Next week, we’ll share a detailed communication that will introduce the new food and beverage concepts, photos and videos of the finished space, and most importantly, share opening dates!
Budget
Since receiving Member approval and your trust, everyone involved has remained diligent in following due process and managing the budget responsibly. Like any major construction initiative - especially amid market fluctuations - Renew ’22 presented its share of challenges. Nonetheless, the project team stayed focused on delivering a successful outcome. Below is a summary of the total project costs:
June 2022: Members approve a project budget of $23.3M for both phases of Renew '22.
December 2023: Phase I (Youth and Administration spaces) is completed—14% under budget.
December 2023:
Prior to Phase II (Food and Beverage) construction, market conditions increase the total forecasted construction costs by approximately 6.4%.
The Board exercises its Bylaw authority to reallocate furniture and select kitchen equipment from Renew '22 to Fiscal '25's capital budget.
This proactive decision kept the official construction budget at $23.3M.
The Board determined this decision was critical to maintain the project schedule, to avoid escalation costs, to protect the integrity of the project (scope and quality) and to follow through with the Club's commitment to complete this long-overdue investment.
May 2025: Project Completion (Phase I & II)
Total project cost:
$23.3M for construction.
$1.7M for furnishings and select kitchen equipment.
Total debt: Forecast at $14.5M, below both the $16.3M initial projection and the $20M borrowing limit approved by Members.
Thanks to strong cash flow and higher-than-expected entrance fee revenue, the project’s financing outlook improved. The resulting savings in annual debt servicing costs helped offset the 6.4% increase in the overall project budget. The Board is very pleased with the outcome - a completed project that protects Member value and supports long-term financial sustainability.
Project Overview
In early 2022, Members were invited to contribute ideas through focus groups, surveys, and engagement sessions. That feedback formed the foundation of the Renew ’22 vision. After thorough consultation with stakeholders and industry experts, the plan was brought to a Membership vote - where it passed with 85.8% approval in June 2022.
The project was designed in two phases over a 24-month timeline, both of which were delivered ahead or on schedule;
Phase I: Youth & Administration
May–November 2023
Phase I focused on optimizing existing spaces and enhancing services for our youngest Members and staff. This included relocating our Administration Offices to a more efficient location, which in turn opened up prime space for a brand-new Kids Centre. Opened in January 2024, the Centre now houses HollyVille, a nursing room, two flex rooms for youth programming and classes, and a vibrant outdoor playground. Completed ahead of schedule and under budget, this phase set the tone for the work that followed.
Phase II: Food & Beverage, Lobby Spaces & Events
January 2024–May 2025
Phase II delivered the most visible and transformative changes to the Club. It introduces two brand-new dining destinations, a premium casual restaurant with adult and family dining zones, a lively bar, and an expansive south-facing patio; and a bright, all-day café.
Phase II also brings the Club a stunning new event venue for up to 120 guests, where Members can host life’s milestones with pride and our spectacular south-facing view. In addition, both the main and athletic entrances were redesigned to provide a warm, modern welcome.
In tandem with these exciting new spaces, the Club completed essential and critical infrastructure upgrades behind the scenes, including new air handling systems, electrical enhancements, roof replacements, and comprehensive seismic work.

To the many Members who participated in focus groups, completed surveys, shared feedback, and helped shape this project - thank you. Your voices were essential in bringing this vision to life and creating a renewed Hollyburn we can all be proud of.
And to all Members, thank you for your patience, adaptability, and unwavering support throughout the past two years. Whether it was navigating hallway detours, dining in temporary spaces, hearing test alarms, or sharing the Club with construction crews - you showed incredible understanding every step of the way. It was a journey full of small sacrifices, but today, we’re proud to share a Club that reflects everything you deserve. We truly believe it was worth the wait.
